　　今天一打开 Outlook，就收到了一封来自 Microsoft 的电子邮件，告诉我 Windows Server 2003 R2 RC1 现在已经提供下载了。
　　老早就听说 Windows Server 2003 要开发 R2 版本。其实当第一次听到这个消息的时候，我马上就联想到了10年以前的一个操作系统：Windows 95。当年 Windows 95 也开发了一个 OSR2 版本 (OSR: OEM Service Release; 其实应该包括2; 2.1; 2.5三个版本)，集成了Internet Explorer。不过那终归是作为OEM用途。
　　不久以前，记得大概是8月底，似乎有一个RC0版本被放出来。现在时隔一个多月，RC1版本出现了，速度还是挺快的。

　　Windows Server 2003 的 R2 版本跟 Windows 95 完全不同，是一个能够摆上货架的零售版本。它在 Windows Server 2003 的基础上提供了更多的功能和组件。

　　官方列出的 “What's New” 有下面几点：

• Distributed File System Upgrades
• Print Management
• Storage Resource Manager
• Storage Management for SANs
• Hardware Management
• Active Directory Federation Services
• Unix/Linux Interoperability
• General Upgrades and Enhancements

　　大家可以去 Windows Server 2003 R2 Customer Preview Program Beta 的网站上去看看。点击上面的 Register to download the release candidate software 链接注册以后可以下载到180天的试用版本。当然，x86 和 x64 版本都有提供。

　　值得注意的是网站上提到的“如何得到R2 (How to Get R2)”：
　　R2 is packaged as a second disk that accompanies a primary disk containing Windows 2003 SP1. Once released, R2 will replace Windows 2003 SP1 in the retail channel, meaning that if you buy new server software, it will include the R2 disk, even if you have no need for the new R2 features.
　　If you're a Software Assurance or Premier customer, you already own R2 so you might as well take advantage of its new components. If you're a retail or volume license customer, there are no Client Access License (CAL) upgrade requirements, but there is an upgrade cost.

　　详细意思嘛就不翻译了，相信大家都看得懂。大概就是说在零售渠道R2将取代现在的SP1，意思就是如果你新购买了 Windows Server 2003 的话，它将包含R2的光盘，而不管你需不需要R2的这些功能。反正就像现在的xp一样，摆上货架的都是SP2版本，将来摆上货架的 Windows Server 2003 肯定都是R2版本的了。
